Tools from zu Jeddeloh for the fine bench
At fohrmann.com you will find a small zu Jeddeloh range for work where a workshop file, magnifier or anvil is too coarse. Two flat anvils, a head magnifier and diamond files cover straightening and the fine edge on the bench.
Straightening on the flat anvil
Small pieces are not straightened on a blacksmith's anvil. A flat anvil sits on the bench: a hardened face, polished on all sides, on which you dress the workpiece with a hammer. You supply the hammer yourself. It is not included.
The flat anvil measures about 60 x 60 x 20 mm and is enough for light straightening. The flat anvil with rubber base is a different piece: the insert measures 72 x 72 x 18 mm and sits in a rubber block of 100 x 100 x 24 mm. The block keeps the face still when the bench is hard and the anvil would otherwise creep. Lift the insert out when you want the face without the base.
Both hands free, then the edge
Once the part is small, you need light and magnification where your fingers stay. The head magnifier sits on an adjustable headband, the LED spotlight lights the field, and the lens frame flips up when you work for a moment without glass. You change four acrylic lenses by working distance: 1.2x at 520 to 620 mm, 1.8x at 230 to 320 mm, 2.5x at 150 to 250 mm and 3.5x at 80 to 120 mm. Two AAA batteries are included and the weight is 120 g. It works with ordinary glasses and is not recommended with progressive lenses.
What the magnifier makes visible is often finished with a file. The diamond needle file set contains five shapes: triangular, square, round, half-round and blunt flat. Each file is 140 mm long, with a 70 mm cut length. That reaches edges and internal radii a workshop file cannot. The files come in a plastic pouch.
Silver steel for a shaft, an axle or a small tool
If you make a shaft, an axle or a small tool yourself, you need the diameter before the first cut. The silver steel rods are about 500 mm long. You choose 1.00 mm, 2.00 mm, 3.00 mm, 4.00 mm, 5.00 mm, 6.00 mm or 8.00 mm and order that rod on its own. The material can be hardened.
Buy zu Jeddeloh tools at Fohrmann Werkzeuge
You order the five articles individually at fohrmann.com, and the silver steel by diameter. The same pieces stay in their tool category. Here they sit together as the zu Jeddeloh range: straighten, work under the magnifier, dress the edge and take the rod to size.
